General Information
  1. What is Global Email Service?
    With Global Email Service, you use one device to access both voice and data services while traveling. Make and receive calls whether you're in the U.S. or traveling to over 182 international destinations and access your email in over 100 countries.     Note: CDMA Data outside the US is enabled in Bermuda, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Israel, and Mexico.

  4. What do I need to do to make sure I have everything set up for data/email and voice before I travel abroad?

    You will need a global capable email device, a SIM card,  the appropriate global feature codes and Travel chargers.

    Tip: If you are using email, set it up prior to traveling and ensure you are able to get your email before you leave.

  5. How do I make a call while in GSM mode?
    1. In standby mode, press and hold 0 to display the + symbol. (The + symbol automatically inserts the exit code for the country from which you are calling.)
    2. Enter the country code of the person you are calling (1 for the U.S.).
    3. Enter the area code/city code, followed by the number of the person you are calling.

  6. What email solutions are supported with Global Email services from Verizon Wireless and will work on the Samsung i830?
    Verizon Wireless™ Global Email solution offers you two email options while traveling outside the US, Wireless Sync and Microsoft ActiveSync. Enroll in the appropriate PDA/Smartphone plan that is right for you.

    Tip: Set up your email prior to traveling so that you ensure you are able to get your email before you leave.

  7. How do I switch to GSM mode while traveling abroad?
    In order to change the network mode in markets where both CDMA and GSM are present. Please follow the instructions for changing the Network Mode:

    1. In the device options, click Mobile Network
    2. Perform one of the following actions:
      • To connect to CDMA networks only, set the Network Mode field to 1XEV.
      • To connect to either a GSM network or a CDMA network, set the Network Mode field to Global.
      • To connect to GSM networks only, set the Network Mode field to GSM.
    3. Press the Menu key.
    4. Click Save.


    By default, your BlackBerry 8830 device switches to the appropriate Verizon Wireless/Vodafone partner network automatically when you travel. You will need to manually switch to GSM when both CDMA and GSM are present. Please complete the following:

    1. In the device options, click Mobile Network.
    2. Change the Network Selection Mode field to Manual.
    3. Select Scan for Available Networks.
    4. Click Select Network.
    5. Press the Menu key. 
    6. Click Save.


    On the Samsung i830 you can switch to GSM from the main screen (also called the Today Screen):

    1. Select Start.
    2. Then select Settings.
    3. Choose ServiceMode.
    4. Once in ServiceMode, select GSM, then OK.
    5. You will be prompted to type Yes to make the switch. From there, you can make voice calls or access data messaging.


    Tip: Upon returning, remember to switch back to CDMA mode.

  8. If I have technical problems while traveling how do I get assistance?
    If you need customer support while in the United States or abroad, you can reach Verizon Wireless Global Customer Support. While in the United States, please dial *611 from your global device or (800) 922-0204 from your global device or landline. If you are traveling outside the United States,in GSM mode please dial (+)1-908-559-4899 from your global device . In CDMA mode dial the exit code for the country your in followed by 1-908-559-4899.
