What is VZAppZone?
VZAppZone is a storefront portal designed specifically for advanced devices. It allows you to discover applications and services available for your device, and download applications to your device, all from one convenient location. The applications/services that you see on your device have been pre-filtered, which means you don’t have to waste time searching through irrelevant content. We do the searching for you, so the functionality you need is right at your fingertips.

To make finding information easy, VZAppZone has been organized compactly into 5 tabs:

How can I get VZAppZone on my device?

If you have a VZAppZone capable device, you may browse the following URL from your device: http://ota.getvzappzone.com, and click download to begin the installation process. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

You may also have VZAppZone icon on your device. Click the icon and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

What is the My Zone tab?
My Zone provides quick access to your Email, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, personalized News and Weather content, and alerts for available upgrades.

What is the My Content tab?
My Content provides access to your customized News and Weather, and content purchased through VZAppZone.

You can modify your My News selections to include headlines from a variety of news categories, and customize the My Weather menu for five different locations, including one home location.

What is the Get Content tab?
Get Content presents content/applications that are supported on your device. You may select the category for the type of content (i.e. Best Sellers, Personal Productivity, Games, etc.) that you are interested in discovering, and you will be presented with a list of device-specific content/applications. Select your application of interest, and a description of the selected application will be provided with an option to "get it."

You will also have the option to search for content by name, topic or keyword.

What is the What’s Hot tab?
What’s Hot presents you with hot/new applications and services. It also features Verizon Wireless branded solutions that may offer solutions for increasing work productivity or just provide a source of entertainment while on the go.

What is the Support Center tab?
Support Center is your personal help service for all VZAppZone related questions.

It provides information about your device and existing products and services, as well as information about the VZAppZone application itself and how to personalize your VZAppZone experience. It also provides information about updates available for applications that you have purchased through VZAppZone, and upgrades to the VZAppZone client application.

What applications/services are available on VZAppZone?
VZAppZone allows you to discover content supported on your device through the Get Content tab. The applications and services are a combination of Verizon Wireless products, Verizon Wireless business partner solutions, and a collection of third party applications, which cover a wide array of different interests, from entertainment to personal productivity.

VZAppZone also provides quick access to Email, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, all purchased applications, personalized News and Weather, and a Help menu.

What are VZAppZone Alerts?
Alerts are sent to the VZAppZone client application to notify the user that an update or upgrade to an application is available. When a new version of a VZW featured application (that you have previously downloaded) is available, you will see a message on the VZAppZone My Zone screen indicating that you have "X" update(s) available. This applies to all downloaded VZW branded applications, as well as the VZAppZone client itself.

What should I do when I receive an Alert?
When you see the notification indicating that you have one or more update(s) available, you can select the message to proceed with the update(s) whenever you choose. Selecting this message will advance you to the "Check for Upgrades and Updates" menu found in the Support Center tab. There, you may select to install the updated application(s). If you choose not to install the update(s) at that time, you may return to the menu at any time to complete the installation.

Why am I being told that I must upgrade my VZAppZone client application?
When an upgrade for the VZAppZone client application is available, you will receive a notification indicating that a new version is available. Once you receive this notification, you may choose to install the upgrade immediately, or (if you wish) you may choose to wait until a time that is more convenient for you. However, if you choose to install the VZAppZone client application at a later time, you will be unable to use the client until you perform this upgrade. This is because there may have been critical changes made to the application that will potentially affect its performance.

If I upgrade to a new version of the VZAppZone client application, will I lose applications (and content) that I downloaded with a prior version?
No. Content that you download from VZAppZone may be saved either to the device memory or to an SD card so whether you upgrade the VZAppZone client application, or accidentally delete it, all downloaded content safely remains where it was originally stored. Upon performing an upgrade, you will also preserve your personalized VZAppZone settings.

To conserve memory, can I save the VZAppZone client application to a SD card?
No. The VZAppZone client application must be saved to the device memory in order to function correctly. For this reason, saving to an external memory card is not allowed.

Can I download applications and other content on VZAppZone to a SD Card?
Yes. If you have an external memory card inserted in your device, the application will give you the option to download either to your device or to the external memory card.

How do I configure (reconfigure) the news categories under the "My News" menu?
When you navigate to the "My News" menu under the My Content tab for the first time, the first five news categories will automatically be selected for you. You may reconfigure your News categories by opening the "Configure News" window in one of two ways:
  • Use the 5-way navigational key to move down to the icon at they very bottom, on the left side of the display, and select the "Configure News" icon (or navigate to the right) to highlight the "Configure News" window.

  • Press the right soft key, Menu, and select the "Configure News" option to open the window.
  • Once you are in the "Configure News" window, you may enter up to five different zip codes. Press the right soft key, Save, to save your selections.

Headlines and news articles from these selections will be downloaded and displayed in your "My News" menu.

How do I customize the weather under the "My Weather" menu?
When you navigate to the "My Weather" menu under My Content, you may customize your Weather locations by opening the "Configure Weather" window in one of two ways:

  • Use the 5-way navigational key to move down to the icon at they very bottom, on the left side of the display, and select the "Configure Weather" icon (or navigate to the right) to highlight the "Configure Weather" window.

  • Press the right soft key, Menu, and select the "Configure Weather" option to open the window.
  • Once you are in the "Configure Weather" window, you may enter up to five different zip codes. Press the right soft key, Save, to save your selections.   
  • Weather forecasts for each of the zip codes entered will be downloaded and display in your "My Weather" menu.

How do I personalize my news and weather, so they appear on the Home tab?
Navigate to the "Personalize VZAppZone" menu under the Support Center. Here, you may check one news category to be displayed, and you may choose to display your home weather conditions. (You may leave either or both blank, if you decide you do not want to have them displayed.) After you have made your selections, press the Save soft key to store them.

Two headlines from the selected news category, and your current weather conditions will be displayed on both the VZAppZone My Zone tab as well as the Windows Mobile Today Screen.

Why do some services under "Get Content" allow me to purchase and others do not?
Some applications may be immediately installed through VZAppZone, whereas others (including some Verizon Wireless Business applications and VZW Industry Solutions applications) require a company administrator to install software and set up other necessary components. In order to install an application from the latter group, you will need to contact a Verizon Wireless business sales representative for more information.

How do I pay for my purchases?
You will have multiple ways to pay for content purchased through VZAppZone. When you select “Get It” you will be prompted to select from the following payment methods:
  • Bill to Verizon Wireless Account
  • Use a credit card using your Handango Account

Can I block purchases from VZAppZone?
Yes. If you decide to block purchases through VZAppZone, you will be able to register for and navigate within VZAppZone. That means you will be able to read news and weather, visit the Support Center and view a listing of the available content.

An error message will be displayed if you try to make a purchase.

Why are applications available on another device and not mine?
Some applications may not be compatible with your device functionality. For this reason, the type of device that you are using and the specific device Operating System (OS) version will determine the variety of applications and services that are supported on your device.
