Questions & Answers

What email access do I have via my handheld?
Customers with handhelds that support ActiveSync (e.g., Windows Mobile) can get a rich, collaborative mobile experience, including near real-time updates and synchronization of email, calendars, and contacts.

Feedback

What version of Outlook will work with this solution?
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 can be configured to be Premium MAPI (RPC/HTTP) clients; this type of connection is also known as Outlook Anywhere. Earlier versions of Outlook can be used for POP or IMAP connections.

Feedback

What type of anti-spam and content-filtering features do you offer?
All Verizon Wireless inbound and outbound email will pass through an advanced messaging platform that automatically scans for and prevents spam. In the interests of providing the best possible messaging platform and experience, all Verizon Wireless customers get the same default anti-spam settings that cannot be viewed or changed.

Feedback

Are any attachment types not allowed?
To protect our customers and the network, the Verizon Wireless Hosted VZEmail Services platform strips off any attachments with EXE, BAT, PIF, MSI, VBS, and COM extensions. The original email will continue on to the intended recipient, but the attachment will be removed and replaced with a TXT file with a simple explanation about what occurred. The attachment cannot be recovered.

Feedback

What is a PST file?
A PST file is used by Outlook to store email messages, attachments, calendar data, contacts, and other information on your PC. The letters PST stand for Personal Storage Table. In Outlook, the PST file is referred to as "Personal Folders."

Feedback

Can I view my mail via the Web on my handheld?
Yes, Outlook Mobile Access is available for Premium subscribers. It provides a user interface that is appropriate for your mobile phone.

Feedback

When in my in-box, I only see new messages and none of the old ones. After I read the new messages, they disappear too. How can I fix this?
While in your in-box, look at the View drop-down menu of your Outlook icon bar. Verify that it does not say “Unread Messages” and that the “Messages” option is selected.

Feedback

What happens when my mailbox gets full or near full?
At 95% of your allocation (e.g., 950 MB in a 1000 MB allocation), an automated warning email will be sent once a day to the mailbox.

At 100% of allocation, you will not be able to send mail.

When sending from Outlook Web Access, you will immediately get a banner that says, “You have exceeded the storage limit on your mailbox.” Delete some items from your mailbox or ask your account administrator to increase your storage allowance.

In Outlook, a pop-up appears, titled “Mailbox Cleanup.” The first line says, “You have exceeded the size limit of your mailbox.” The rest of the pop-up provides options for copying off files to your desktop.

Feedback

How can I view my mail folders while in Outlook Web Access?
You can only view folders that reside on the Hosted VZEmail Services platform. Anything that is in your Personal Folders is only viewable from the machine where the file actually resides. To view the server side folders, click the button labeled “Folders,” located on the left side of the screen.

Feedback

How can I get to Public Folders in Outlook Web Access?
On the left side of the screen, click the button labeled “Public Folders.” Only SMB Premium subscribers can see Public Folders.

Feedback

How is the allocation of a public folder determined?
When creating a public folder, you must put in an allocation value in megabytes with 5 MB being the minimum value.

Feedback

Can I get additional public folder storage?
No, the public folders allocation is 100 MB. Customers cannot create public folders with the sum of Folder allocation being more than 100 MB.

Feedback

When I send an email in Outlook Web Access, I want the address checked against my personal contact list first and the Global Address List second. How do I set this up?
  1. From the folder list on the left, ensure you are on the shortcut view.
  2. Click the Options button.
  3. Under the section labeled contact options, ensure you select Contacts as where to verify names against first.
  4. Click Save and Close at the top of the page.

Feedback

How many times does it take to lock my account from misspelled user names or passwords?
Accounts will be locked out after six unsuccessful attempts. The lockout period is 30 minutes.

Feedback

I am getting spam and want to change my spam settings; how can I do this?
The network-based anti-spam settings are fixed for all Verizon Wireless customers. You cannot alter those settings, but you can create rules in Outlook and use the included anti-spam capability in your mail client.

Feedback

How can I view what has been caught by the spam filter?
This information cannot be viewed. All identified spam messages are blocked and deleted, meaning any email identified by the filter as spam no longer exists.

Feedback

Why can’t I see my Global Address List when I click the “To” button on a new mail message?
Outlook Web Access addressing doesn’t provide for Global Address List access like Outlook does. You will need to provide one of the pieces of information in the fields on the Find Names box and click Find to locate the name. The same functionality is true when you click the Address Book icon from the in-box view in Outlook Web Access.

Feedback

I forgot my password. Can my customer administrator or Verizon Wireless tell me my password?
No one can tell you the existing mailbox password. The customer administrator or Verizon Wireless Help Desk can reset a password but cannot look up the old one.

Feedback

When trying to log into mail, I put in my user name and password, but just get the user name and password prompt returned with no error. What is wrong?
It may be that your user name is not typed correctly or the password is wrong or locked. Unfortunately, due to a Microsoft Exchange limitation, you won’t be told which is wrong. Your account administrator can confirm the correct user name. Your account administrator can also check whether the account is locked via the Administrative Web site and unlock it by unchecking the appropriate checkbox.

Feedback

When I enter my user name and password into my Windows Mobile device, I am just shown the request for user name and password again. What am I doing wrong?
User name formats in ActiveSync are different than for logging into Outlook Web Access or the Administrative Web site. Due to limitations from Microsoft, user name formats are a maximum of 20 characters with “@” replaced by “_”.

For example, a user name of robert.customer@customerdomain.com would have an ActiveSync user name of robert.customer_cust. Your password remains the same.

Feedback

Why don’t I receive a notification when new mail arrives in Outlook Web Access?
  1. From the folder list on the left, ensure you are on the shortcut view.
  2. Click the Options button.
  3. Ensure that a check mark is in the box labeled "Display a Notification Message When New Mail Arrives."
  4. Click Save and Close at the top of the page.
